It’s quite sharp in the center. The barrel is plastic so it’s not going to hold up quite as well, perhaps, as a brand name lens, but it seems well made. The edges are a bit soft on a full-frame, and it does have some noticeable barrel distortion, but given what it is for the price it’s a great bargain.

Shooting with it, I like it a lot better at f/2.0 than at f/1.4. There’s a look to it wide open that is a bit harsh; Maybe bokeh or some astigmatism. By f/2.0 though it’s very nice. It handles and focuses well. Is it a Canon 35 f/1.4 replacement for 20% of the price? No way. But if you don’t mind manually focusing, it’s certainly as nice as the 35 f2.0 (although larger) at the same price and usable at f/1.4 if the need arises.
