The Leica SL (Type 601) is a full-frame mirrorless camera with high-speed burst shooting, robust video, and the ability to use a variety of modern and legacy Leica lenses. It’s the predecessor to the Leica SL2. Key features include:
24MP full-frame sensor and Maestro II processor
DCI 4K capture at 24 fps, UHD capture at 30 or 25 fps
Fast, robust autofocus system
Supports Leica L-mount lenses
24MP Full-Frame Sensor. At the heart of the SL is a 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor. Leica has removed any and all low-pass filtration to deliver sharp, incredibly detailed imagery.
Genius-Level Brain. The powerful Maestro II processor delivers a sensitivity range of ISO 50-50,000. Coupled with a 2 GB buffer, this Leica clocks in with impressive speed-burst shooting at up to 11 fps for up to 33 DNG images and an infinite abyss of unlimited JPEGs.
Fast Focus. Touted as one of the fastest autofocusing systems available in a full-frame camera, the Leica SL’s Contrast AF makes use of static, dynamic, and face-detection modes to keep your shots sharp and your subjects crystal clear.
Legendary Lensing. The Leica L-mount system offers users an incredible amount of flexibility when it comes to lensing. The native full-frame SL-series glass benefits from electronic communication for fast autofocus, electronic aperture control, and optical image stabilization. And then there are the adapters—this camera supports Leica M, S, R, and TL lenses. Please note that TL lenses will only cover the APS-C/Super 35mm sensor area.
Minimalist Design. The SL Type 601 is intended to be intuitive and user friendly. A rear touchscreen allows you to swipe through settings and images and allows you to focus on any part of the image with a quick tap. A small black-and-white LCD on top of the camera allows you to quickly check and change your current settings without having to use the rear screen or peek into the viewfinder.
4.4MP EyeRes EVF. The SL’s 4.4MP EyeRes EVF combines 0.8x magnification, 37° field of view, and 60 fps output to give you a beautiful view.
Versatile Video. The SL shoots Full DCI 4K, UHD, and myriad HD-video options. You can record DCI 4K at 24 fps and UHD footage at 30 or 25 fps in a Super-35 sized crop factor, while Full HD comes in a full-frame format at speeds of up to 120 fps for smooth slow motion. All internally recorded video is 8-bit 4:2:0, but the camera will output 10-bit 4:2:2 to an external recorder via HDMI.
V-Log Enabled. While some cameras require additional upgrades to add V-Log functionality, the Leica SL offers native V-Log L gamma support. This provides a flat image profile that augments the camera’s dynamic range and maintains a maximum amount of image information for color grading in post.
