The Rokinon (AKA Samyang, AKA Bower) 35mm f1.4 is a manual focus lens with focus autoconfirm chip built in. As of November 2016, we no longer offer this lens as a rental item. We do, however, continue to offer a selection of Nikon-mount, wide-angle lenses, including the Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine DS for Nikon.

It’s quite sharp in the center and the autofocus confirmation chip is reasonably accurate. The focus ring is really quite smooth and accurate. The barrel is plastic so it’s not going to hold up quite as well, perhaps as a brand name lens, but it seems quite well made. The edges are a bit soft on a full-frame, and it does have some noticeable barrel distortion, but given what it is for the price it’s a great bargain.
I don’t really care for it at f/1.4 but I like it very well stopped down to f/2.0. I hate to get nonscientific, but it’s not just that it’s less sharp wide open, it also has a bit of a harsh look. Maybe some astigmatism or spherical aberration that disappears when you stop down a bit. It’s not a 35 f/1.4 replacement, but it’s a very nice lens at an excellent price if you don’t mind manually focusing.
