Full Frame Sensor
24MP RAW Photos
E-Mount
The Sony NEX-VG900 is a full frame interchangeable lens Handycam with a resolution of 24.3 megapixels. Although similar in design to the other NEX Handycams, this camcorder’s full frame Exmor CMOS sensor provides a wider field of view than the former model’s Super 35 sensor. This larger sensor provides improved low light sensitivity, and offers the ability to achieve even shallower depth of field highlights. Apart from enhanced video quality, the NEX-VG900 also has the ability to take full-frame, 24MP RAW photos, offering the post processing latitude of a professional stills camera in the body of a Handycam.
It should be noted, while the NEX-VG900 comes equipped with a native E-mount, E-mount lens don’t provide full-frame coverage. To get the most out of the VG900, you’ll want to use Sony A-mount lenses via the included LA-EA3 adapter. The LA-EA3 provides full aperture control, push-to-focus autofocus with SAM and SSM lenses, and transmits EXIF data to all photos and videos shot. In addition to the included adapter, the following adapters we carry provide full-frame coverage, but do not transmit EXIF data:
Leica M-mount
Nikon G-series F-mount (with manual aperture control)
Canon EF-mount (provides no aperture control!)
PLEASE NOTE: The two previous version A-mount adapters (LA-EA1 & LA-EA2) and Metabones Gen. 2 Smart Adapter do not provide full-frame coverage. If using these adapters, the camera must be set to APS-C crop mode.
