The Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 (PL) is an update to the URSA Mini Pro and the predecessor to the URSA Mini Pro 12K. Key features include:
4.6K Super 35mm sensor
Refined sensor and ND filters
Fifteen-stop dynamic range
PL mount with Cooke i/Technology
What’s Changed? The external body of the Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 (PL) is mostly unchanged in this update, but that doesn’t mean it’s an unsubstantial one. A revamped sensor has a new extended ISO of 3200, and frame rate options now extend to 300 fps in HD Blackmagic RAW, 240 fps in 2K and HD ProRes, 150 fps in UHD Blackmagic RAW, and 120 fps in 4.6K Blackmagic RAW and UHD ProRes. To complement the sensor, BM added new ND filters with IR compensation. A new SSD media option is available with the recording capable USB Type-C port.
Professional Features. With the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2, you get a raft of external controls that eliminate menu diving for focus assist, frame rate, and exposure settings. There’s an exterior LCD that provides at-a-glance shooting data, a four-position ND filtration wheel (0/2/4/6-stops), and dual CFast 2.0 and UHS-II capable SD memory card slots. New to the G2 is recording to USB Type-C SSD drives, and the URSA Mini SSD Recorder is still compatible if you’d rather use 2.5" SSDs.
Touchscreen Controls. Despite its reduced size, the URSA Mini Pro comes equipped with a five-inch folding monitor. Its touchscreen interface allows access to most menu functions, eliminating the hassle of menu-diving.
PL mount with Cooke i/Technology. This camera is compatible with cinema lenses that utilize ARRI’s PL (positive lock) mount. There is an added layer of lens communication with lenses capable of sharing lens data via Cooke i/Technology.
Anton Bauer Gold Mount. When you rent an URSA, it’ll come with an Anton Bauer Gold Mount battery plate pre-installed. We include one Anton Bauer Titon 90 Gold Mount Battery and one Anton Bauer Twin 60 Charger. If you need additional batteries and chargers, you can rent them by following the above links.
Need a Memory Card? You’ll need an ultra-fast memory card for a camera this data hungry, and we recommend a CFast 2.0 from Blackmagic Design’s Recommended Media List for RAW recording. The SanDisk 128GB Extreme Pro 525MB/s CFast 2.0 is a good option. If you prefer SD media, know that you’ll be limited to RAW in HD and ProRes in other resolutions. The Sony 128GB SF-G Tough Series UHS-II SDXC is the best we currently have to offer.
