The Canon XA55 is a compact, 4K-capable prosumer camcorder and the predecessor to the XA65. Key features include:
1-inch 13.4MP 4K UHD CMOS sensor
25.5 to 382.5mm f/2.8-4.5 15x optical zoom lens
Records up to 150 Mbps UHD 4K/30p & 35 Mbps 1080/60p
SDI and mini HDMI outputs for external monitoring
What’s Changed? The biggest difference from the XA45 to the Canon XA55 is the larger, upgraded sensor. The transition from the much smaller 1/2.3-inch sensor to this updated 1-inch sensor allows for much better low light performance and the addition of Canon’s very capable Dual-Pixel autofocus system. Like the XA45, the XA55 is capable of recording UHD 4K30p at 150 Mbps and only records to MP4. If there’s a downside to the larger 1-inch sensor in this generation’s camera, it is the slower, shorter 25.5 to 382.5mm f/2.8-4.5 integrated lens.
Compact & Easy to Use. The Canon XA camcorders are a fantastic option for first time videography or situations requiring a compact, no-fuss camcorder. Despite its small stature, the XA55 features both SDI and mini HDMI outputs for external monitoring and a top handle with XLR audio inputs. Attach the battery, insert and format your SD card (not included), and you’re ready to film with a fully outfitted weight of only 2.1 lbs.
Image Stabilized Zoom Lens. The attached lens has a 15x zoom ratio with a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 25.5 to 382.5mm. The lens works in conjunction with the sensor for 5 axes of stabilization to ensure smooth handheld shooting.
Other Notable Features. Dual SD card slots keep you shooting longer without stopping to swap cards. The camera has two options for viewing your image with a flip-out, 3-inch, capacitive-touch LCD and a tiltable rear electronic viewfinder.
