The Fuji GFX 50R is a professional-grade medium format mirrorless camera with a rangefinder-inspired body design. Looking for an alternative to this camera? Check out the Fuji GFX 50S. Key features include:
What’s Not New. Spec and hardware-wise, the GFX 50R is essentially the same as the GFX 50S Medium Format Mirrorless, just in a smaller, rangefinder-esque body. With that said, most of the description below is largely copied over.
51.4MP Medium-Format Mirrorless. The Fuji GFX 50R uses a 43.8 × 32.9mm CMOS sensor for superior sharpness and image quality in a relatively compact mirrorless form-factor. The larger-than-full-frame sensor size has a reverse crop factor of 0.79x, so keep that in mind when selecting lenses.
Multiple Aspect Ratios. You can adapt this camera to various aspect ratios, including 4:3 (default), 3:2, 16:9, 1:1, 65:24, 5:4, and 7:6.
Fuji G-Mount. The larger medium format sensor requires lenses with a larger image circle, thus was born the G-mount. As it’s designed for mirrorless, the G-mount features a short flange back distance of just 26.7mm. Fuji X-mount lenses aren’t compatible with the medium-format GFX 50R.
X-Processor Pro Imaging Processor. With large amounts of data captured, the GFX 50R needs a versatile and powerful processor to handle the load. The X-Processor Pro fits the bill, giving you continuous shooting at up to 3 fps or Full HD capture at 29.97, 25, 24, and 23.98 frame rates. It also gives you a range of Film Simulation modes.
Contrast-Detection Autofocus System. The built-in contrast-detection autofocus system uses 117 total points, which you can divide into 425 points for exceptional focusing speed and accuracy. You can use the integrated Focus Lever to switch between points, or use the rear touchscreen to select specific focus areas. Face and Eye-Detection AF modes are great for portraiture, and an electronic depth-of-field scale offers you even greater precision.
EVF and Tilting Touchscreen LCD. The 3.69M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder features 0.77x magnification while offering 100% coverage. You also get a tilting 3.2-inch, 2.36M-dot rear touchscreen LCD for navigating menus, controlling image playback, shooting in live view, and selecting focus area.
Durable Build. The GFX 50R features a weather- and dust-resistant build, operating in temperatures as low as 14º Fahrenheit. The camera has dual SDHC/XC card slots that support UHS-II memory, and the included rechargeable NP-T125 battery is rated for an estimated 400 shots per charge.
