Apodization Filter. Long story short, the addition of this internal, adjustable filter enables the user to adjust spherical aberration outside the plane of focus. This provides more pleasing bokeh for accentuating selective focus applications. Apodization works best at wide apertures, so the lens also includes a three-step neutral-density filter. The red dial indicates the effective aperture value as it relates to depth of field. The standard white ring indicates the actual f/stop number. The difference between these two rings indicates the effectiveness of the filter.

Fast Portrait Lens. The XF 56mm f/1.2 R gives uses an 84mm focal length after sensor-crop factor, making it perfect for portraiture. Additionally, the fast f/1.2 aperture provides ideal subject/background isolation through shallow depth of field. The fast aperture also makes this lens a great option for low-light shooting.

Manual Controls. Like many other XF lenses, the XF 56mm f/1.2 features manual aperture and focus rings.

DC Coreless Autofocus Micromotor. This motor provides fast, accurate autofocus performance. It has an internal focusing design, allowing the lens to remain the same physical length while it’s focusing.

High-Quality Optics and Build. Two extra-low dispersion elements, one double-sided aspherical element, and four elements with convex surfaces facing the front of the lens reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations while increasing image sharpness and clarity. The metal barrel gives this lens a solid, sturdy feel.
