When used on a full-frame camera, the Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G’s expansive ultra-wide to portrait-length field of view makes it perfect for selfies, cityscapes, landscapes, and myriad other wide-angle shooting applications. The zoom range also gives you flexibility to crop your frames in post to increase image stabilization when you’re shooting without a gimbal, and it lets you maintain a wide-angle field of view when shooting video with an 16:9 or 2.35:1 aspect ratio at the 20mm end. A rounded nine-blade aperture produces pleasing, naturally rendered bokeh. The constant f/4 aperture isn’t quite fast enough for low-light shooting, but it’s better than a variable-aperture zoom. Precision Autofocus System. This lens’s autofocus system uses two extreme dynamic linear motors to provide smooth, nearly silent, and highly accurate autofocus performance that’s great for stills and video. The internal-focusing design keeps the lens at the same length and doesn’t rotate the lens barrel while focusing. A 9.8-inch minimum focusing distance lets you get in close to your subject at all focal lengths, while two programmable focus-hold buttons and an AF/MF switch help to tailor focusing to your shooting needs.

High-Quality Build. The FE 20-70mm offers dust- and moisture-resistant sealing for use in less-than-ideal conditions. The hybrid metal-and-plastic build and smooth, responsive, rubberized zoom and manual-focus rings give this lens a solid feel.
