The Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 GM is the newest version of Sony’s 50mm line, offering advanced physical and mechanical upgrades to the previous FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA. Key features include:
- G-Master design with advanced optics
Focus hold buttons & iris lock switch
Dust and moisture-resistant construction
Rounded 11-blade diaphragm
G-Master Quality. The Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 GM offers incredible features suitable for both video and photo shoots. This lens sets itself apart from other 50mm lenses, offering an incredibly fast 1.4 aperture while maintaining a compact and lightweight nature. Like its predecessor, the FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA, this lens still features the signature bokeh, but similarities stop there. New features include an iris lock switch to prevent the aperture ring from being accidentally moved, an easy-to-read aperture ring with f-stop engraving, and two focus hold buttons for landscape and portrait shots.
High-Performance Autofocus The internal focusing design provides more responsive focusing performance and maintains a consistent overall lens length during operation. Two XD Linear Motors are included to supply quick, quiet, and precise autofocus and subject tracking performance. Designed to enhance control for both still and movies, this design also provides natural manual focus control, and an AF/MF switch is located on the lens barrel for tactile control for these settings. This lens offers a minimum autofocusing distance of 16" for dynamic close-up images.
Advanced Optics. The FE 24 f/1.4 GM features three extra-low dispersion elements and two extreme aspherical (XA) elements for minimizing chromatic aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range, and for producing clear, high-contrast images. Sony has applied a Nano AR coating to all of the lens elements to help reduce flare, ghosting, and surface reflections while increasing contrast and color accuracy, even in bright light. This lens’s rounded eleven-blade aperture diaphragm gives images smooth out-of-focus areas when you desire a shallow depth of field.
