The TASCAM Portacapture X8 Handheld Adaptive Multitrack Recorder is a portable recorder capable of capturing 6 tracks of high-resolution audio for a variety of applications, from music to field and even podcast recording. Key features include:
Adjustable condenser microphones
Four Phantom-Powered XLR inputs
Large color touchscreen
High-resolution 32-bit recording
Adjustable Condenser Microphones. The TASCAM Portacapture X8 Handheld Adaptive Multitrack Recorder comes with two 14.6mm large-diaphragm condenser microphones that provide crisp and clear stereo capture. These microphones can be detached or repositioned to accomodate A-B or X/Y mic configurations. Use the A-B position (capsules facing outward) to produce a wide stereo image, or switch to the X/Y position (capsules facing inward) if you need a tighter stereo field with a strong center presence and fewer phase differences.
Phantom-Powered XLR. In addition to the two detachable, adjustable condenser microphones included with this recorder, the Portacapture X8 features four Neutrik XLR-1/4" TRS combo jacks supporting mic- and line-level sources, and provides a switchable 24 or 48V of phantom power, able to accommodate both dynamic and condenser microphones. The built-in 3.5mm mic input can supply plug-in power for lavalier mics or compact shotgun mics, and a 3.5mm camera input allows you to monitor the return from a DSLR. Please note, input jacks 1 and 2 can be used to bring in lavalier mics with 3.5mm TRS plugs but only when the included microphones are not connected.
Large Color Touchscreen. The 3.5" touchscreen featured on the Portacapture X8 provides an easy to read and accessible interface featuring presets for applications like basic multitrack recording, podcasts, music, voice (interviews, vlog, etc.), and field recordings.
Crystal Clear Audio. The Portacapture X8 can record in BWF-compliant WAV format at up to 192 kHz / 32-bit float resolution, and it supports multitrack recording up to eight tracks (six inputs plus a stereo mix). Also, dual recording mode enables each track to be recorded in a different file format. With premium dual A/D converters and 32-bit floating point recording technology, the X8 achieves a wide dynamic range, avoids clipping, and allows the audio level to be increased or decreased later without deteriorating the signal-to-noise ratio.
Built-In Signal Processing. Automatic level control can increase or decrease the volume or recorded audio when the sound is too quiet or loud, and can even engage a compressor and limiter to protect the signal before it distorts. A low-cut filter, noise gate, and reverb are all available as well, to ensure audio is captured exactly the way you want.
Wireless Control. Using the separately rentable TASCAM AK-BT1 Bluetooth Adapter for Portacapture X8 Recorder, you can wirelessly control the Portacapture X8 from a smartphone or tablet with Portacapture Control installed. Timecode sync is available when using the AK-BT1.
