The Zeiss ZE 25mm f/2 is a high-performance manually focusing lens and the predecessor to the Zeiss Milvus ZE 25mm f/1.4. Key features include:
Advanced Optical Design. The ZE 25mm f/2 marks a serious improvement over the Zeiss 25mm f/2.8. Despite the design overhaul, this lens still maintains its Distagon roots. The addition of two aspheric lens surfaces removes chromatic aberrations and eliminates the field curvature that was so noticeable on the 25mm f/2.8. This lens’s floating-elements design means that distortion is no longer a concern, which makes the 25mm f/2 ideal for architectural photography and any other application that requires distortion-free images.
Anti-Reflective Coating. Like all other Zeiss SLR lenses, the 25mm f/2 has Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating, which eliminates lens flare and ghosting while providing the famous high micro-contrast Zeiss look.
Fully Aperture Control from the Camera. Please note that the Zeiss 25mm f/2’s 9.84-inch minimum focusing distance isn’t as close as the the f/2.8’s. This makes the f/2’s focus throw seem shorter, but if you consider the difference in focus distance, the effective throw is the same. The f/2’s lens barrel and focus-ring diameter are both larger than the f/2.8’s—a welcome change for video shooters. Like all other ZE lenses, you have full aperture control from the camera.
Sale of Zeiss ZE Lenses. We’re a registered Zeiss dealer and sell new, in-box, fully warrantied Zeiss ZE lenses in our For Sale section. If the lens is listed, we have a new, in-box copy of it in stock for immediate shipment. If it’s not listed, it’s backordered, but we still have rental copies available.
Zeiss Try and Buy. We offer a new service with ZE lenses only. First, rent any ZE lens for four days. Then, if you decide you want to buy it, we will apply your four-day rental fee to the purchase of a brand-new copy at our listed price. (Please note that this isn’t your used rental copy. You’ll be buying a new lens.)
