The Blackmagic Design ATEM Microphone Converter is designed to expand audio-input using a ATEM Television Studio, or would also make a perfect addition to your podcasting studio. Key features include:
Four XLR inputs
Connects to switcher via MADI
64-channel MADI digital audio I/O ports
Easy-to-use, no setup required
Setup In A Flash. The Blackmagic Design ATEM Microphone Converter is a compact option for additional microphones to be incorporated into your production, quick and easy. To use with an ATEM Television Studio, this unit simply uses one of its two BNC MADI I/O ports to connect to the MADI port located on the switcher. Please note that previous models of the ATEM Television Studio are not compatible with this accessory, as they do not contain any MADI ports. Both the ISO and Non-ISO versions of the new HD8 are compatible with this accessory!
Digital Gains For Days. This convertor offers four wide-dynamic-range inputs that eliminate the need for analog preamplifiers, allowing all microphone levels to be adjusted by an extremely stable digital preamplifier gain stage. Analog audio levels from a variety of brands and types of microphones can be incredibly broad, but using the digital gain stage allows compensation for the specific brand of microphone you use. To make this convertor even sweeter, the digital preamplifier is processed in the full internal 32-bit float RAW audio bit depth, which allows you to adjust with much greater precision than the MADI audio standard can support, resulting in an extremely clean and noise-free gain stage. The final levels can then be finessed on the ATEM audio mixer as you work! This unit also offers an impressive 131 dBA of dynamic range and an incredibly low distortion of 0.002%.
Precise Performance. Typically with microphone convertors, the user will have a higher noise floor where electrical noise is generated in the preamplifiers. Blackmagic has created a totally different design compared to other brands, allowing you to achieve a lower noise floor by converting the input directly using an ultrahigh-dynamic-range conversion, so you pass RAW audio to the switcher, and then let the switcher apply as much gain as required for the correct audio level. Since there is no injection of noise from analog gain stage, you’ll have a fixed noise floor of -129 dBV, regardless of digital gain applied. This unit also features precise matching through all four audio-input channels, allowing each analog audio-input to remain uniform across the board.
Multichannel Audio. This device offers a MADI output that embeds the four analog inputs as MADI channels 1, 2, 3, and 4, and a single MADI input to allow you to loop multiple converters when you need more than four audio channels. When you add a second converter, the upstream converter will stack its four channels above the four channels on the downstream converter.
HDMI Monitoring. This converter also includes an HDMI video monitoring output for displaying your footage on a TV or computer monitor. Audio meters are available to present the input connector level and each channel has a custom label set from the software utility. To display the switch settings for mic-/line-input selection and phantom power, there are indicators on the device, and if you daisy chain convertors, the HDMI out[put will automatically adapt and display more than four channels. You can even name the converter that’ll be displayed on the monitoring device!
