The Canon C70 is an RF-mount, cinema-quality camera with a Super 35 dual-gain output sensor. For an updated version with a 6K full-frame sensor, check out the C80. Key features include:
Super 35mm dual gain output CMOS sensor
Internal, 10-bit 4:2:2 recording to dual UHS-I SD slots
Powered by Canon BP-A batteries
RF-mount lens compatibility; DIG!C DV7 processor
Canon S35 Dual Gain Output Sensor. The next-gen CMOS sensor in the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF) provides DCI 4K/120p capture to two UHS-I SD card slots, 12-bit 4K RAW internal recording at up to 59.94, and simultaneous recording in XF-AVC proxies, and improves on many of its predecessor’s already great specs. It generates 16+ stops of dynamic range by combining images using pixels shot with a saturation-prioritizing amplifier for bright regions while using a lower-noise amplifier for darker areas.
DIGIC DV7 Image Processor. The speedy DIGIC DV7 processor works in tandem with the imaging sensor to guarantee high frame-rate recording. This processor also powers the autofocus system, 4:2:2 10-bit recording, HDR output, and lens stabilization. Please note that we recommend using a V90 SD card to access higher settings, including fast and slow motion.
Dual-Pixel CMOS Autofocus. This autofocus system has phase-detection autofocus with two photodiodes at each pixel, offering greatly improved speed and accuracy. DAF can detect whether your subject is in focus, to which degree it’s in focus, and in which direction. You also get Touch AF and head and face detection modes.
Canon Log 2 and 3 Gammas. Designed to take advantage of the camera’s 10-bit recording capability, the files produced using Log format enable a large degree of color correction/grading in post-production with minimal image degradation. Canon Log 2 gives you the largest dynamic range and image details, and is most flexible in post, but it requires more time in color correction. Canon touts that it offers dynamic range up to sixteen stops. Canon Log 3 is an alternative that gives you a shorter turnaround time with an only marginally reduced, 14-stop dynamic range.
Canon RF Mount. The Canon C70 supports Canon’s line of RF-mount lenses. The RF mount boasts a wide 54mm diameter and a short 20mm flange-back distance, which gives manufacturers the power to design lenses that are smaller and faster than equivalent SLR lenses. The RF mount’s 12-pin electronic contact system also makes for more advanced autofocus and image stabilization. You can use the Canon EF-EOS R 0.71x Mount Adapter to mount EF lenses using the full full frame lens image circle.
Yes! We offer the Zacuto Coldshoe Z-Finder for Canon C70, which you can only use with Canon BP-A30 size batteries or DC power, and the Zacuto Z-Finder for Canon C70, which is compatible with large-capacity Canon BP-A60 batteries.
This rental doesn’t include a shoulder strap by default, but we’ll be happy to send one if you need it.
If you’d like us to include a shoulder strap with your rental, please request the Canon SS-1200 in the Special Instructions box during checkout and we’ll be sure to add it to your order at no additional cost.
The C70 has two mini XLR inputs so you will need a mini to standard 3-pin xlr cable to use with most XLR microphones. We recommend the Blackmagic 19.5-Inch Mini XLR to XLR Female Cable, available here as a separate rental item.
No. This camera has an RF lens mount and is natively only compatible with Canon RF-mount lenses.
If you would like to use Canon full frame lenses on this camera we rent the Canon EF-EOS R 0.71x Mount Adapter.
