Designed for first-time shooters, but capable enough for advanced imaging tasks, the Canon EOS Rebel T8i is a versatile DSLR with well-rounded photo and video capabilities. Key features include:
What’s Changed. The Canon EOS Rebel T8i offers a few improvements over its predecessors, the Canon T6i, and the Canon T7i, including the updated DIGIC 8 image processor, UHD 4K 24p internal video capture, clean HDMI out up to UHD 4K, and vertical video output.
24.1MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor. Both a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor are used to deliver high sensitivity and fast performance to suit both stills and video applications. A flexible native ISO 100-25600 range suits working in a variety of lighting conditions, and the processing capabilities minimize noise for notable clarity and expandable sensitivity up to ISO 51200. The processor also enables up to 7 fps continuous shooting as well as UHD 4K video recording to suit working with moving subjects.
45-Point All Cross-Type AF and Dual Pixel CMOS AF Systems. A wide-area 45-point all cross-type phase-detection autofocus system provides quick and precise focusing in low-contrast and mixed lighting conditions, with its broad coverage ideal for tracking and maintaining focus on moving subjects. In live view and video recording, the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system offers smooth and fast focusing performance. Its Movie Servo AF mode exhibits natural focusing when covering large ground, with the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Additionally, the Touch AF system can be used to rack focus on demand.
UHD 4K Video Recording. In addition to stills, the T8i also sports UHD 4K video recording at up to 24 fps, as well as Full HD and HD recording, and supports vertical video output for vlogging applications. Video recording is benefitted by the inclusion of Dual Pixel CMOS AF and the Movie Servo AF focusing functions, as well as the touchscreen design of the LCD monitor for intuitive control. Movie Digital IS also helps to steady recordings by minimizing the appearance of camera shake across five axes for smoother footage. Additionally, an external microphone jack is incorporated in the body design for greater control over your recorded sound.
Body Design and Wireless Connectivity. The large 3.0" 1.04m-dot vari-angle touchscreen LCD provides an intuitive method for controlling focusing points, navigating menus, and reviewing imagery. Meanwhile, the Optical pentamirror viewfinder (0.82x magnification / 95% coverage) serves a clear means for eye-level shooting. The T8i features both built-in wifi and bluetooth capability for easy image sharing to mobile devices, as well as remote control capability via app. The camera records images and video to SDHC/XC memory cards, while its LP-E17 battery is rated for 800 shots per charge.
