The Canon PowerShot G1X Mark III is a large-sensor compact camera and update to the Canon PowerShot G1X Mark II. Key features include:
24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 7 processor
100-25,600 normal ISO range
Dual pixel autofocus and built-in image stabilization
Full HD video capture at 60 fps
What’s New. The Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III builds on its predecessor in a few key areas. It now has a more powerful APS-C sized 24.2MP CMOS sensor that works in tandem with its DIGIC 7 processor for improved low-light, high-ISO performance. The dual pixel autofocus system offers faster, smoother performance. The G1X III is significantly smaller than the G1X II, even with its built-in electronic viewfinder. Please note that not everything about the Mark III is an upgrade over the Mark II—this camera has a shorter, slower zoom lens than the previous iteration.
24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 7 Image Processor. The G1X III is based around a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor that works in conjunction with a DIGIC 7 image processor to produce sharp, bright images and video. The DIGIC 7 processor gives you up to 9 fps continuous shooting, and Full HD 1080/60p video capture with built-in stereo audio. The 100-25,600 ISO range ensures solid low-light performance.
Dual Pixel CMOS and Movie Servo Autofocus. This camera’s dual pixel CMOS autofocus system acquires focus more quickly and accurately than the Mark II’s, making it ideal for shooting moving subjects. When shooting video, Movie Servo autofocus lets you specify tracking sensitivity, focus speed, and face-tracking priority. It also offers smoother rack focusing and focus adjustment via the touchscreen.
3x Optical Zoom Lens and Built-In Image Stabilization. The integrated 24-72mm f/2.8-5.6 equivalent 3x zoom lens gives you a wide-angle to portrait-length range. The lens’s built-in image-stabilization system offers up to four stops of correction for improved hand-held performance. However, do take note of that slower, variable aperture. This means you’re not going to be shooting handheld moon-lit portraits with this camera.
Smaller and More Refined. The Mark III includes a built-in viewfinder that was absent from the Mark II, but it’s still markedly smaller than that camera. In spite of its more compact size, this camera retains the Mark II’s high-resolution 3.0-inch tilting touchscreen LCD.
Additional Features and Functions. The dust- and moisture-resistant build means you can use the Mark III in less-than-ideal conditions. Built-in Wi-Fi with NFC and Bluetooth connectivity enable remote image capture, review, and transfer with your mobile device. The included NB-13L rechargeable battery is rated for approximately 200 shots per charge (250 in Eco Mode), and images are recorded to SDHC/XC memory cards.
