The Leica M-E (Type 240) is a well-rounded digital rangefinder camera that makes a great entryway into the Leica M system. It’s an update to the Leica M-E. Key features include:
What’s Changed. The Leica M-E (Type 240) is a substantial improvement over its predecessor, the Leica M-E. It has an upgraded 24MP CMOS sensor a Maestro image processor; faster overall performance; Full HD video capture; a larger, sharper LCD; and a broader ISO range.
24MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor and Maestro Image Processor. The M-E (Typ 240)’s combination of a 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor and Maestro image processor produces images with maximum sharpness and low noise levels. It ups light sensitivity to ISO 6400 to give you great performance in low light, but you can extend it down to ISO 100 for working in brighter conditions. The processor works in conjunction with a 2GB image buffer to give you long continuous shooting sequences at 3 fps. You also get Full HD 1080p and HD 720p video capture at 24 and 25 fps, and VGA 480p capture at 30 fps.
Optical Viewfinder and Rangefinder. This camera’s optical viewfinder is a large, bright-line 0.68x-magnification rangefinder with automatic parallax compensation and LED-illuminated frame lines, which are set to match the image sensor size at a 6.6-foot focusing distance. The rangefinder facilitates accurate manual focusing by displaying split or superimposed bright-field images within the center of the viewfinder. The effective rangefinder metering basis is 47.1mm.
Fast, Quiet Operation. The metal-leaf, focal-plane shutter’s microprocessor-controlled design provides quiet operation. The camera’s manual shutter-speed dial offers a range of 1/4,000 – 125 seconds, as well as bulb and aperture-priority settings.
Lens Options. The M-E accepts all M-mount lenses, making it compatible with a long list of classic lenses. Lenses with 6-bit encoding will allow the camera to automatically adjust for their vignetting effects. If a lens isn’t coded, you can set it using a simple menu function so the camera will adjust for the focal length and aperture you’re using.
Memory Options. This camera accepts SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards via its removable baseplate, which also gives you access to the rechargeable lithium battery.
