Q & A

  • Is there anything I can use to make this thing easier to carry?
  • Does this rental include the tripod collar?
    • This rental doesn’t include the tripod collar. If you need it, please request it in the Special Instructions box during checkout and we’ll do our best to send it. Please be aware that we offer them on a first-come first-served basis.

  • Is this lens compatible with teleconverters?
    • Yes, this lens is compatible with the Nikon 1.4x III and 2x III teleconverters, which are available as separate rental items.

  • What do all of those lens abbreviations mean?
    • “E” is a reference to an E-Type lens which uses electronic aperture blade control for improved auto exposure accuracy during continuous shooting. Please note, E lenses have very limited compatibility. Refer to the camera compatibility list under Resources to determine whether or not this is the appropriate lens for your needs.

    • “AF-S” refers to Auto Focus that features Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor or “SWM.”

    • “PF” stands for “Phase Fresnel” which is a type of lens element that can reduce chromatic aberration using fewer elements. This technology allows for lighter and more compact lenses but is also more prone to flaring when used with strong light sources near the frame of the image. To minimize the flare phenomenon, download the Capture NX-D app linked under “Resources.”

    • “ED” stands for “Extra-Low Dispersion” Glass and is a reference to specialized glass used for the correction of chromatic aberrations.

    • “VR” or “Vibration Reduction” is a reference to Nikon’s proprietary in-lens image stabilization.

  • Is this lens incompatible with any Nikon DSLRs?
    • Due to its electromagnetic aperture mechanism, this lens isn’t compatible with Nikon D90/D200/D2 DSLRs or older.
