“E” is a reference to an E-Type lens which uses electronic aperture blade control for improved auto exposure accuracy during continuous shooting. “ED” stands for “Extra-Low Dispersion” Glass and is a reference to specialized glass used for the correction of chromatic aberrations.
“AF-S” refers to Auto Focus that features Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor or “SWM.”
Yes and no. At 8mm, you’ll get a partially circular image with black corners. At 11mm (marked on the zoom ring), the image will be fully rectilinear. Zooming further will simply decrease the angle of view.
Yes and no. At 8mm, you’ll get a fully circular image with a black frame. At 15mm, you’ll get a rectilinear image that fills the entire frame. In between the two ends of the zoom, you’ll see the circular image gradually work its way to fill the sides of the frame.
Due to its electromagnetic aperture mechanism, this lens isn’t compatible with Nikon D90/D200/D2 DSLRs or older.
