The Nikon D5 is a pro-grade DSLR and upgrade to the D4s. This is the CF model – Nikon MFR #1558. You can find the XQD model here. We also carry the Nikon D6, a major update to this camera. Key features include:
20.8MP full-frame sensor
ISO range of 100-102,400, expandable to 50-3,280,000
Improved autofocus and tracking focus
4K video capture
Newer Version Available. While the D5 was Nikon’s flagship pro-grade DSLR at the time of its release, its predecessor, the Nikon D6, represents a substantial update to this camera.
Major Upgrade. The Nikon D5 offers several notable improvements over the D4s, including a new 20.8MP FX sensor with higher sensitivity, an all-new autofocus system, 12 fps continuous shooting, and 4K video recording.
Sensitivity You Didn’t Know You Needed. The all-new 20.8MP full-frame sensor is paired with an EXPEED 5 processor to give you a native ISO range of 100-102,400. That not fast enough for you? Don’t worry; it’s expandable to 50-3,280,000! Now you can shoot those glamour portraits lit by the glow of your smartphone in your pocket.
Fast Autofocus/Frame Rate. The D5 boasts a new Multi-CAM 20K AF system that offers 153 phase-detection AF points with 99 cross-type sensors. However, please note that only 55 of those points are selectable. Further improvements to Nikon’s tracking focus system promise even better continuous-focus performance. Pair that with the 12 fps continuous shooting frame rate and 200-frame RAW buffer limit, and you’d have to work hard to not get your shot.
4K Video. The D5 isn’t just for sports photography; it’s capable of in-camera 4K UHD recording at 24/25/30p (DX crop only), Full HD up to 1080/60p, and uncompressed output to an external recorder via HDMI mini input. Stereo audio can be captured in-camera or externally via 1/8-inch mic input, while a separate 1/8-inch headphone input and 20-step manual adjustment enables precision audio monitoring. Still no focus peaking or zebra warnings, so we recommend using an external electronic viewfinder/video monitor with those features.
Professional Build. As you’d expect, the pro-grade D5 is built like a beast. The magnesium-alloy body features built-in vertical grip, elaborate weather-sealing, multiple customizable buttons, bright 0.72x optical pentaprism with 100% viewfinder coverage, and a EN-EL18a battery life rated at 3780 shots per charge. Notably new to the D5 is a large touch-sensitive 3.2-inch rear LCD with familiar smartphone-like navigation.
Dual CompactFlash Only. The D5 is sold in two different memory-card configurations, and this is the dual CF version. XQD cards are not compatible with this version of the D5. You can find the XQD-compatible version of this camera here.
Wireless Slave Flash Capability. The D5 offers support for the Nikon SB-5000 Speedlight’s wireless control, but it requires the use of the Nikon WR-R10/T10/A10 Wireless Remote Adapter Set. This enables the camera and flash to wirelessly control up to 6 groups of flashes from up to 98 feet away, free from line-of-sight restrictions.
Please Note: If you’re using the SmallHD 502 or 702, set the HDMI Output to LIMITED in the camera’s Advanced HDMI Settings menu.
If you’re looking for the XQD version of the Nikon D5, you can find it here.
Because of copyright regulations, we can’t send the Nikon software with this camera.
