Nikon pulled out most of the stops on this one: 16.2 Megapixel CMOS crop sensor (DX) with 14-bit conversion, 6 FPS burst shooting, a 39-Point AF System with 9 cross-type points, autofocus fine tuning, and a 3" LCD display. Also, dual SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card slots. ISO 6400 is available and you can use an “expanded” ISO of up to 25,600. (Notice we said “can use” not “looks good when you use”). It also has the Nikon 3D Matrix metering system and some cool features like “quiet shutter” and built-in control for off-camera flashes.
Plus, it shoots 1080p HD video with full time autofocus and manual exposure control at either 24 or 20 frames per second, It even has HDMI output if you want to use a field monitor, etc.
Compatibility problems: There have been reports that the D7000 has some problems autofocusing with some third party lenses, particularly older lenses. We do not have a running list of those lenses, but it’s primarily older F-mount third-party lenses that have the issue, which we don’t carry. We have found that this does affect the Sigma 18-35 in some cases.
