16.3 MP Sensor
Full HD Video
Adobe DNG File Format
The Pentax K-5 II is a durable, advanced APS-C sensor DSLR and an update to the popular Pentax K-5. It’s based around a 16.3MP CMOS sensor with integrated Analog / Digital conversion circuitry which provides high quality, high resolution images. The advanced 11-point SAFOX X autofocus system provides accurate results with a wide EV range for improved low light performance. The normal ISO range of 100-12,800 and in-camera Shake Reduction (4-stops) helps capture images in low light conditions. Sports shooter will also appreciate its 7fps continuous mode and maximum shutter speed of 1/8000 sec.
Like most DSLRs, the K-5 II offers Full HD video recording, up to 1080 / 25p in AVI format. It has a built-in stereo mix for quick, in-camera audio. However, for improved performance, there’s also a 3.5mm input for attaching external mics. While it’s not really optimized for extremely high-quality video, it’s plenty good for home movies or small-budget work.
The K-5 II offers a magnesium alloy shell around a stainless steel chassis with Pentax’s well known 77 weather protection seals. The 100% optical viewfinder with 0.92X magnification provides a bright composition aid, and the large 3.0" 921K rear LCD feature an air-gap-free and scratch-resistant design. The camera has a standard pop-up flash (GN 13 @ ISO100) and traditional hot shoe, as well as PC sync input with maximum flash sync speed of 1/180 sec. The K-5 II shoots native Adobe DNG 14-bit RAW files in addition to Pentax’s proprietary PEF files and standard JPEG. Images and video are recorded to SDHC / XC memory cards, and the rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides about 980 shots per charge.
