The Ricoh WG-80 Digital Camera is a waterproof, shockproof digital camera built from the ground up for shooting in adverse conditions. Key features include:
Designed for outdoor and underwater photography
Excellent still quality and Full HD video capture
Integrated 5x optical zoom lens; built-in ring light
Three shake-protection modes to prevent image blur
Rugged Construction. The Ricoh WG-80 Digital Camera’s main selling point is its heavy-duty build, which makes it perfect for shooting underwater, on construction and work sites, and in the harshest of outdoor conditions. Its body is solid, airtight, and waterproof at a depth of 46 feet for up to two hours of continuous operation. It’s also dustproof, shockproof against falls from up to five feet, freezeproof in temperatures down to 14°F, and crushproof against weights up to 100kgf. Need a remote camera trigger? Superlative Image Quality. The WG-80 has a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor and high-performance imaging engine that combine to ensure high-sensitivity, low-noise image characteristics and high-speed image-data signal readout. You get a top sensitivity of ISO 6400 and sharp, clear, super high-resolution images with approximately 16 megapixels. For night shooting, the Handheld Night Snap mode automatically captures several frames of the same scene and composites them into a single, blur-free image.
Six-LED Macro Light. There are six LED macro lights positioned around the lens barrel’s circumference to help evenly illuminate subjects for macro shooting or creative purposes. Or both! There are five levels of LED brightness so you can optimize the light output for your shooting situation. An Instant Illumination Enhance feature lets you use a higher shutter speed by automatically raising the macro lights’ discharge level at the moment of shutter releases. A Self-Portrait Assist mode uses the LED to make sure your face is fully within the frame when you’re taking a selfie, while an LED lighting mode uses the macro lights to illuminate your surroundings in low-light conditions.
Underwater Shooting Mode. Given the WG-80’s waterproof design, it’s no surprise that Ricoh offers a pair of underwater shooting modes—one for stills and the other for video. Both of these shooting modes optimize color and contrast based on the underwater image data the camera captures, and they give you sharp, lifelike image quality by enhancing shades of red that are typically lost in underwater photography while compensating for the loss of contrast caused by the way water diffuses light.
Built-In Wide-Angle 5x Optical Zoom Lens. This integrated 5x optical zoom lens gives you 5mm to 25mm (28mm to 140mm equivalent in 35mm format) focal-length coverage, which accommodates a broad array of shooting situations, from portraiture to landscapes. Its macro mode lets you capture striking close-up images from a one-centimeter minimum focusing distance, and its Intelligent Zoom feature extends the zoom range to roughly 36x (1008mm equivalent in 35mm format) to give you telephoto reach without compromising image quality.
Full HD Video Capture. The WG-80 provides Full HD movie recording in the H.264 format, letting you capture high-quality extended movie clips with 1920 × 1080 pixels, in 16:9, at 30 fps. There’s also a high-speed camera function for slow-motion video playback and an interval movie feature. You can use the micro-HDMI Type-D terminal on the camera body to simultaneously output Full HD movie clips and sound to external AV devices.
Shake Protection. There are three shake-protection modes to prevent blurry images, regardless of how you’re using the WG-80. Pixel Track SR compensates for camera shake when you’re shooting stills by digitally processing the affected images. Digital SR automatically raises the ISO sensitivity when you’re shooting in low light with a high shutter speed. Finally, Movie SR uses internal software to eliminate evidence of camera shake when you’re shooting video.
Additional Features. This camera’s 230,000-dot, 2.7-inch LCD monitor has an anti-reflection coating to minimize glare and reflections so you’ll always have a clear view of your shot, even in harsh natural light. A high-speed Face-Detection feature captures up to 32 faces in focus within an approximate 0.03-second minimum, a Smile Capture function automatically releases the shutter when the camera detects that the subject is smiling, an outdoor-friendly Style Watch function displays the time on the LCD, and an Auto-Picture mode automatically selects the most appropriate shooting mode from the 25 available modes.
