Do you recommend this lens for professional work?

These lenses were designed as a budget anamorphic. Do not expect to get high end, cinema quality footage with these lenses. They’re not ultra sharp, the ergonomics leave a lot to be desired and really prohibit you from using accessories that are necessary for quality footage. Contact us and we can help you build the right kit for your shoot so you don’t end up with a disappointed client later on.

Do you rent any monitors with an anamorphic de-squeeze feature?

Yes! For an on-camera monitor solution we recommend the SmallHD Focus 5.5-Inch OLED HDMI Monitor. Please note, the de-squeeze feature on any monitor will typically rely on your specific camera’s output. If you have questions about your anamorphic workflow, contact us so we can help build a kit suited to your needs.

Do I need a support for this lens?

This rental includes the Wooden Camera 15mm Universal Lens Support. The SLR Magic Anamorphot-Cine lenses are a bit front-heavy, especially when used with smaller mirrorless cameras. We recommend using a rail support system like the Zacuto Recoil or Wooden Quick Kit.

Can I use a matte box with this lens?

Since the focus ring is at the extreme front of the barrel, you can’t use a clamp-on matte box with this lens. To make matters worse, the barrel physically extends when focusing, so a rod-mounted matte box won’t work either. Basically, using a matte box with this lens would require a very creative setup that we can’t really recommend.
