The Sony Alpha a6300 is an advanced compact mirrorless camera. Looking for an updated version of this camera? Try the a6400. Key features include:
24.2MP APS-C Sensor. The a6300 features a refined crop-frame image sensor and the latest BIONZ X image processor working in tandem to create images with reduced noise at high sensitivities. The ISO range covers a base level from 100-25,600, but is expandable to ISO 512,000 for shooting in caves and other extreme low-light scenarios. Snap at up to 11 fps burst before you fill up the 21 image buffer. We’re talking RAW burst here. Like 14-bit uncompressed RAW. Not JPG.
4D Focus. The 4D Focus system covers close to the entire sensor area and incorporates 425 phase-detection points along with 169 contrast-detection areas for ridiculously precise focusing at a ridiculous 0.05-second speed.
4K Video. The a6300 brings the video functions of the Sony Alpha a7S II to an even smaller, even more affordable package. The camera records 4K internally to an SD card at 100 Mbps using the XAVC S codec. To create the 4K image, the sensor provides a full pixel readout without any pixel binning, resulting in a near-6K image that’s oversampled to create the final image. And if you don’t want to record internally, you can always output an uncompressed HDMI signal at 4K with 4:2:2 sampling.
S-Log3. The Alpha a6300 offers two S-Log3 gamma profiles that allow for up to 1,300% wider dynamic range. This makes for smooth roll-off and more information in the shadows and highlights.
Video Features and Functions. In addition to the high-quality 4K image, the a6300 boasts a rich video feature set that includes exposure and focusing aids, such as peaking and zebras. The a6300 also includes a timecode feature to help you manage your data and allow for faster data management in post. The camera’s Gamma Display Assist provides a preview of what your S-Log3 footage will look like after color correction, basically like an onboard lookup table.
Viewing Methods. You’ve got two options for composition and review. The large 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with 120 fps refresh rate is great for eye-level shooting, even with a fast-moving subject. There’s also a 3.0-inch, 921.6k-dot tilting rear LCD for arm’s-length and tripod shooting.
Other Notable Features. In-camera Wi-Fi with NFC allows quick connection to compatible smartphones for wireless image transfer and camera control. The durable magnesium-alloy body has weather sealing against dust and moisture, keeping you shooting in less-than-ideal conditions. The camera records to widely available SDHC/XC memory cards, and the rechargeable NP-FW50 is rated for 350 shots per charge (EVF)/400 shots per charge (LCD).
