High-Quality Build. The Sony Zeiss lenses have always offered the highest possible quality for Sony A-mount cameras, and the 24mm f/1.8 extends this same level of quality to E-mount mirrorless cameras. It’s a 36mm-equivalent lens. Its fast f/1.8 aperture allows for low-light shooting and, in combination with the 7-blade circular aperture, a very pleasing background blur.

Advanced Optical Design. The lens is based on the classic Carl Zeiss Sonnar design. It uses both aspherical and ED elements to optimize optical quality for corner sharpness and keep aberrations down. The lens body is made of aluminum alloy and features a smooth manual focus ring. The silent autofocus motor works great for both still and video shooting, and the option to use Direct Manual Focus (DMF) for fine-tuning focus makes shooting with a shallow depth-of-field more accurate. It focuses to a very close 6.2 inches, which allows for an interesting 1:4 pseudo-macro effect.
