What’s Changed? The Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II improves on the “Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM”:/sony-fe-85mm-f1.4-gm with new lens technology that produces higher resolution at all apertures while also greatly improving focusing performance thanks to an extreme dynamic (XD) linear motor that’s faster, quieter, and more accurate than the Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor (DDSSM) system of the prior model. Dual XD linear motors deliver higher thrust that can keep up with the demands of current and future high-speed cameras, with subject tracking improved by as much as 7×. All of this is offered inside a lighter and smaller form factor.

With gorgeous bokeh and next-level G Master performance, the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II is a reliable and agile choice for not only portrait photographers but videographers as well. Focus breathing is minimized and there is added support in the lens for the breathing compensation function in select cine-line cameras. As with its predecessor, the 85mm f/1.4 GM II is equipped with a physical aperture ring that can be de-clicked for silent and smooth aperture changes mid-scene.
Rugged Hybrid Construction. A combination of metal and plastic components were used to make this lens 20% lighter and 13% smaller than the prior model. The 85mm f/1.4 GM II also includes a dust and moisture-resistant design with gaskets at every seam to help protect it in bad weather.
Full-Frame E-Mount. As a part of the FE line of lenses, the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II is designed for Sony full-frame cameras. It’s also fully compatible with APS-C sensor cameras, on which it’ll provide an effective focal length of approximately 127.5mm.
