What’s Changed? The biggest change from the HF G40 to the Canon Vixia HF G50 is the upgraded sensor, and it brings with it a substantial jump in both resolution and maximum bitrate. The G50 is capable of recording UHD 4K/30p at 150 Mbps. There is a very slight bump to zoom range with a 35mm equivalent of 30.6–612mm. Last big change is the removal of an AVCHD recording option. The G50 offers recording to MP4 only.
Compact & Easy to Use. The Canon VIXIA line of camcorders is a fantastic option for first time videography or situations requiring a compact, no fuss option for video. Attach the battery, insert and format your SD card (not included), and you’re ready to film with a fully outfitted weight of only 1.91 lb.
Image Stabilized Zoom Lens. The attached lens has a 20x zoom ratio with a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 30.6 to 612mm in 4K. Range is extended to around 640mm when shooting in 1080p or lower. The lens works in conjunction with the sensor for 5 axis of stabilization to ensure smooth handheld shooting.
Other Notable Features. Dual SD card slots keep you shooting longer without stopping to swap cards. The camera has two options for viewing your image with a flip-out, 3-inch, capacitive-touch LCD and a tiltable rear viewfinder.
