Improved Sharpness and Lighter Weight. The Canon 400mm f/2.8L IS II is a substantial improvement over the original 400mm f/2.8. Don’t get us wrong; it’s not that we think the original version isn’t great. It is. But this lens weighs an amazing 3 pounds less—that’s 20% lighter—than its predecessor. It’s even sharper than version I, which took some doing because the original was superb.

Improved Image Stabilization and Autofocus.
