big ones. Same with the 24-70mm. However, I've found that the 16-35mm isn't really something I get a lot of mileage out of. The 24-70mm gets me as wide as I need to be 99% of the time and that extra 1% doesn't pay the bills. I would switch this lens out for the 85mm prime for those mouth-wateringly gorgeous portraits which do actually pay the bills. Likewise, the 100mm, while an excellent lens for detail shots and worth adding to your second tier of lenses, is not one I would include in my must-have bag. I would switch this one for the 50mm prime. If you've already got a 50 in your bag though, which duh, you should, by all means grab the macro.
I don't do on-camera flash anymore unless it's as emergency fill light for hopelessly backlit outdoor settings, so I probably wouldn't go for any Canon strobes. I used to use a trio of these strobes connected to Pocket Wizards. Ugh. Can you say AA battery mayhem? Now, my lighting gear of choice is an assistant with a reflector or, if the big guns are called for, an assistant with a Westcott FJ200 on a monopod with a modifier, working in tandem with an FJ400 on a stand with a modifier. (I like the Profoto strobes for their sleek look but wth are they thinking with their pricing? And anyway the Westcott trigger is super sweet.) So for what it's worth there's my two bits.
All that being said, this setup is fine and you can use it to do beautiful work. But you can use an iPhone to do beautiful work too. As my grandpa always said, a good workman never blames his tools. The best camera is the one you have with you.
I don't always rent gear but when I do, I only rent from LensRentals. Read Less
