Canon EOS C200B Gimbal-Ready Kit

The Canon EOS C200B Gimbal-Ready Kit provides gimbal users a starting point for building out a setup based on their needs. There are additional add-on options available, but these are the essentials. This kit includes:

Wooden D-Tap to Canon C200 / C300II 3-ft. Braided Flex Cable

Gimbal-Ready Camcorder. The foundation of this package is Canon’s 4K RAW capable C200B camcorder. It was designed with gimbals in mind, having no built-in EVF to muck with a gimbal tilt radius. An EF lens mount means wide lens compatibility, and Canon’s dual-pixel auto focus is still best camcorder autofocus we’ve seen. If in-camera audio is a must, XLR and 3.5mm mic connections provide options. Don’t forget media, and if you plan to shoot RAW, you’ll need plenty. Recording 4K RAW will fill a 128GB card in about 15 minutes.

Monitor, Mount, and 3.3-foot Cable. In this kit, we include the Canon LM-V1 touchscreen monitor Canon usually pairs with the C200 plus a clamp-on RAM mount and 3.3 foot cable for flexible mounting.

Power Camera Via Gimbal’s D-Tap Port. Simplify camera power by using the included 3-foot Wooden dtap cable to power the C200B from a compatible gimbal’s D-Tap accessory port. Running your camera off of the gimbal’s battery means less downtime and a more productive shoot.

Q & A

Does this include a top handle our LCD attachment for off-gimbal use?

No. The standard C200 accessories used for off-gimbal work have been substituted in this kit for accessories that streamline the C200B for gimbal use. If you would like to add a top handle for off-gimbal work, the Canon HDU-2 Handle Unit for EOS C200/C200B is available for rent separately and can be used along with the included RAM Mount Clamp to securely attach the LCD on camera.

Are there any known third-party lens-compatibility issues with this camera?

In-house testing has confirmed that this camera will not recognize several Tamron G2 lenses. We recommend sticking with native Canon lenses if you need electronic focus or iris control for your shoot.

Is this camera compatible with light-duty gimbals like the M5?

While a combination of skill, compact lenses, and/or extension arms may make it possible to accurately balance the C200 on gimbals designed for DSLR and Mirrorless systems, we only recommend flying this camera on larger gimbals like the Movi Pro.

Is there an option to add / use the Canon GR-V1 Camera Grip with this kit?

Yes! We offer the Wooden Canon C200B Grip Relocator Add-On as a separate rental product for users who want this type of setup.

Can I use compatible Canon batteries to power this camera?

Batteries that sit flush inside the battery compartment work and can even help with balance, but larger batteries like the Canon BP-A60 stick out and restrict the tilt axis of some gimbals.

Is a gimbal included in this kit?

No. This kit is designed to be rented or used alongside a gimbal of your choosing. Recommend gimbals can be found in the “Works Well With” column on this page or check out the Freefly Movi Pro Gimbal w/o Mimic and the DJI Ronin 3-Axis Brushless Gimbal Stabilizer.
