The Hoya 82mm HMC Close-Up Filter Set II is a set of three high-quality magnification filters that lets you get macro-esque results without a macro lens. Key features include:
Creates a macro effect without a macro lens
+1, +2, and +4 diopter strengths
Decreases minimum focusing distance
Multi-coated optical-glass construction
Quick, Simple Macro Solution. Each of the three filters included in the Hoya 82mm HMC Close-Up Filter Set II optically decreases your lens’s focal length, which in turn lessens the minimum focusing distance between the lens and your subject. The end result? A macro solution that doesn’t require a macro lens.
Three Diopter Strengths. This set includes three filters with +1, +2, and +4 diopter strengths, each of which respectively provides increasingly greater magnification. You can use these filters individually, of course, but you can also combine them with one another to further fine-tune the macro effect.
High-Quality Construction. These filters have three layers of anti-reflection coating on each side of their chemically hardened optical glass to ensure maximum clarity while preventing internal ghosting and, naturally, reflections. All three of these filters provide roughly 97% average light transmission, and feature aluminum-alloy filter rings that are durable and lightweight.
About Diopters and Underwater Photography. When you take a camera and lens underwater behind a dome, your camera sees a virtual image that’s created by the light rays passing from the water into air through the dome. The image is at a fixed location in relation to the camera sensor—about 12 inches (30.5 cm) away—regardless of the distance of your subject from the sensor. A diopter changes the focus distance of your lens to a fixed value. The focal length of a +4 diopter is 9.8 inches (250mm), which happens to hit the sweet spot when shooting behind a dome port underwater.
