Ikelite Sony a7 IV Underwater Camera Kit

The Ikelite Sony a7 IV Underwater Camera Kit is a full-frame camera, 16-35mm lens, and underwater housing combo that’s waterproof down to 200 feet. Key features include:

Sony a7 IV. The Sony Alpha a7 IV is the heart of this kit. It offers a 33MP back-illuminated full-frame sensor that works in tandem with the BIONZ XR processor to deliver incredibly fast performance, excellent image quality, and great low-light performance. This full-frame camera can capture UHD 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2 video in Super 35 mode with full pixel readout to ensure that there’s no binning, which helps you achieve those perfect underwater shots. This unit is powered using a BC-QZ1 charger and FZ100 battery.

Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Lens. As a part of the G Master line of lenses, the 16-35mm f/2.8 is designed to cover the full-frame sensors on Sony E-mount cameras. When used with the Sony Alpha a7 IV, this lens’s zoom range is wide. Like really wide. Its field of view ranges from 107° at its widest to 63° at the long end, making it a great companion for the a7 IV.

Under The Sea The Ikelite DL Housing for Sony a7 IV contours perfectly to the camera, is completely corrosion-free, and super durable. The transparent backing allows for a clear view of the main o-ring seal, port o-ring seal, and camera controls. We choose to rent Ikelite-branded housings because they give you access to almost every camera control underwater.

Ikelite Base with Dual Quick-Release Handles. This rental includes Ikelite’s Base with Dual Quick-Release Handles, which aids underwater maneuverability, is easy to attach and remove from the housing, and doesn’t interfere with the housing’s operation.

Underwater Housing Assembly Tips. Always assemble the housing first without a camera in it on dry land. Then slowly submerge the empty housing into a bathtub or a bucket, rotate the housing all around, and look for escaping air bubbles. This could be a sign that the housing is not assembled properly and water could be getting into the housing. Only after a few assemblies and dunks with no leaks do we recommend putting the camera in the housing. Again, slowly submerge the housing into a bathtub or a bucket, rotate the housing all around, and look for escaping air bubbles. As a courtesy to our gear-cleaning team, try to give the housing a quick freshwater rinse and dry off before sending it back if possible!

Underwater Shooting Tips. Practice using the camera and housing on dry land to get comfortable with adjusting settings before you get underwater. Get as close as possible to your subjects. Too much water between the lens and your subject reduces contrast and sharpness. Keep your shutter speed high—you’re often moving more than you realize when you’re not standing on the hard ground.

What kind of accessories should I consider adding to my rental?

We have a plethora of compatible Ikelite accessories that have different uses depending on what you need.
Most Ikelite users like to add dive weights to help balance things while you’re down under, and you can find a few choices to pick between in the Recommended section of your screen.
These dive weights will require the Ikelite Trim Weight System for Underwater Housings to attach to your Ikelite housing.

Can I use other Sony lenses with this kit?

This kit only includes the port extensions compatible with the 16-35mm f/2.8. If you’d like to use a different lens, we recommend renting the housing and the a7 IV with the compatible lens of your choosing.
Please check out the port chart to ensure you have the correct extension for the lens of your choosing.

How do I clean the Ikelite lens port and housing?

To prevent salt build-up, it is recommended that the empty and sealed Ikelite housing be rinsed with fresh water. To prevent salt build-up around the controls, submerge the housing in a rinse tank and operate the buttons to flush out any debris or residue. Wipe dry with a lint-free cloth following any rinse. To avoid flooding, do not leave the Ikelite in a rinse tank.
Please note that the housing should always be sealed before coming into contact with any water. It is also recommended that the camera be removed from the housing before cleaning. Do not use cleaning agents on the housing or lens port as incompatible chemicals can compromise the plastic or o-rings, resulting in leaks.

Can I leave the camera installed when not in use?

No. You should always remove the camera from the housing for travel and storage. For best performance, store the camera and Ikelite housing in a shaded place when not in use to protect from overheating.
Always recheck the o-ring after opening the housing.
