32 selectable channels and quad-zone triggering
Improved build, layout, and controls
Automated switching between transmit and receive modes
Triggers all PocketWizard units
The PocketWizard Plus III Transceiver is an predecessor to the very popular PocketWizard Plus IIIe. It combines multiple transceiver models’ technologies into a single unit. Key features include:
Selectable Channels and Remote Switching. The PocketWizard Plus III Transceiver features 32 selectable channels for minimizing interference, as well as PocketWizard’s Quad-Zone Triggering for controlling up to four zones of remote cameras/flashes. This function allows simple switching among four different combinations of lighting setups, all with the Plus III on-camera.
Improved Build and Control Layout. The Plus III’s improved button layout and backlit LCD make it easier than ever to operate. Its new side-profile design and internal antenna make keeping visual contact with your subject much easier. The PocketWizard Plus III uses two AA batteries (not included).
Auto-Sensing Technology. Like its predecessor, the Plus III has PocketWizard’s Auto-Sensing technology for automated switching between transmit and receive modes. You can also override this feature and use the Plus III as a dedicated transmitter or receiver.
Simplified Controls. One welcome change from the Plus II is the all-in-one sync port for connecting remote flashes and cameras. Also new is the two-stage test button, which allows metering and autofocus on remote cameras when pressed halfway.
Expandable Signal Range. While the Plus III has a 1,600-foot working range, it features a Repeater Mode that extends the range by using multiple Plus IIIs placed between the main transmitter and remote receiver.
Backwards Compatibility. The Plus III is backwards-compatible with all previous PocketWizard units, including strobes with built-in PocketWizard receivers.
Connectivity Options. The Plus III is triggered via hot shoe when attached to a camera and sync cord when attached to a flash. You’ll need one PocketWizard for each flash unit, as well as one for the camera.
Will you be working with shoe-mount flashes?
We send one PocketWizard-to-PC cord with each Pocket Wizard. This will allow you to connect it to a Canon 580 EX II or Nikon SB900 flash (or other flash that has a PC cable input). The Canon 480EX II, Canon 580EX, Nikon SB 600, and Nikon SB 700 flashes do not have PC inputs.
Will you be working with a studio strobe kit?
We send one PocketWizard-to-1/8-inch mini cord with each PocketWizard. If you need a different/additional cord, you’ll need to rent it separately. If you don’t rent the proper cord, then your PocketWizard won’t connect to your lights. If the PocketWizards don’t connect to your lights, they won’t flash. If they don’t flash, you’ll have wasted a lot of money.
Just so we’re clear: We don’t know how you’re going to hook up your PocketWizards, what other equipment you’re using them with, or what types of cables you may already have. We’ll only send the cables and PocketWizards you order. If you meant to order something (but didn’t), thought it came with the equipment (it doesn’t), or assumed we knew what you’d need (we don’t), you’ll be using very high ISO on your shoot and we won’t be able to refund you.
Does this product have the most up-to-date firmware?
Currently, all of our PocketWizard radio devices have the most up-to-date “legacy” firmware and have not been updated to the latest E-Release firmware, which was released on September 1, 2019. Any newer E-Release updated device will not function with a legacy firmware device. This includes any third-party product that incorporates PocketWizard technology, such as light meters.
