The Zoom F8n is an advanced, budget-friendly multitrack field recorder that builds on the success of the F8. It’s a predecessor to the Zoom F8n Pro Multitrack Field Recorder. Key features include:
What’s Changed? Compared to the standard F8, the F8n features markedly improved headphone processing that maximizes volume, clarity, and immersion for proper monitoring in the field. You can route audio to the left and/or right headphone channels, pre- or post-fader, and you can switch the headphone output to mono and set headphone alert tones for low battery, recording start and stop, and recording errors.
Supports SMPTE Timecode. Timecode in and out is provided on BNC connectors. The Zoom F8n uses a high-precision oscillator to generate accurate timecode with a discrepancy of fewer than 0.2 frames per 24 hours.
Bluetooth Control via iOS Devices. The Zoom F8n is the first field recorder to feature wireless Bluetooth control. Use your iPhone or iPad to take extensive control with the Zoom F8 Control app. Use functions like record, stop, fast forward, rewind, mixer pan, fader levels, and more. You also get real-time monitoring of input levels, time code, and battery status. You can even rename files, add date and time info, and enter metadata. To use Bluetooth control, you must first install Zoom’s Bluetooth extension file.
Ambisonic Audio for VR. The latest firmware version gives you the ability to record audio in a range of ambisonic formats for VR productions.
Two SDXC Card Slots. These card slots allow for recording on two SD memory cards (separate rental items), with support for SDXC cards that enable even longer recording times.
Full-Color LCD. The F8n has a 2.4-inch full-color backlit LCD that makes leveling and menu navigation quick and simple. Monochrome mode makes the F8 easy to use in any environment—from low light to direct sunlight.
Three Possible Powering Solutions. This recorder can operate on 8x AA batteries (not included), an AC adapter, or a 9 to 18 V external DC power supply with automatic switching between power supplies.
Update. There is an updated version of this model, the Zoom F8n Pro Multitrack Field Recorder, which you can rent here.
