The Vaonis VE50 Vespera Digital Telescope w/ Tripod is a compact device designed to explore the wonders of space & beyond. Key features include:
Portable & compact
Sets up in 5 minutes, initializes in 10
GoTo Technology finds/tracks objects
Autofocus for photography
Out Of This World. The Vaonis VE50 Vespera Digital Telescope w/ Tripod is small enough to carry in your backpack and big enough for the stars. Celestial observations and photography are redesigned with this scope, substituting the typical eyepiece with the Singularity mobile application for viewing. You can completely set up this unit in under five minutes, and it’ll fully initialize in ten minutes.
Singularity App. The Singularity app is your handheld control room. With this intuitive and user-friendly application, you can easily access any stellar object in the catalog. You will get personalized recommendations on what to observe according to your geolocation and the astronomical calendar, and notes about the secrets of the Cosmos. Pretty stellar, right?
Sensor & Lens. The Vespera uses a Sony sensor developed for extreme low light, and its back-illuminated CMOS sensor offers a 1/2.8 format and a 2.9µ pixel size. Additionally included is a unique quadruplet 50mm lens, formed by two groups of two lenses made with lanthanum glass— leaving no room for distortion, chromatic aberration, or astigmatism.
Auto-Everything. Integrated in the Vespera are some auto tools to assist in getting the perfect shot. Autofocus technology removes the need for manual focus and automatically locks in tack-sharp focus on the object you’re observing. Auto initialization enables your mobile device’s GPS, star pattern recognition, and astrometry to calibrate itself.

Astrophotographers, behold! The new Vaonis Vespera—the world’s lightest “smart telescope”—has landed at Lensrentals, and this backpack-sized, 11-lb. space-observation station combines ease of use with reliable results. It’s everything you need to start taking shots of anything you can see in the night sky (and some things you can’t).
Initial setup is very simple, as it’s all controlled through Vaonis’s Singularity app. After about ten minutes of setup and configuration, the app presents you with a menu that allows you to target a specific point of interest, such as galaxies, nebulae, and the like.
Vaonis claims the Vespera has a 4-hour battery life, but I used it for 3 hours and still had 65% battery life remaining, so their estimate seems to be on the conservative side. I used the Plan My Night feature, which allowed me to queue specific regions I wanted to observe, and let the app do the rest for me.
I have high praise for the Vaonis Vespera’s stacking capability, and the almost live view you get while the images are being processed. Image stacking with other telescopes can take many hours—even days, depending on your setup—but the Vespera had the files ready to edit within ten minutes of my finishing an observation. The Vespera can produce JPEG, RAW, and TIFF files, allowing for more control over the editing process.
Not everything is perfect with this telescope, though. Image quality is an integral part of astrophotography, and while the Vespera produces great images, those images lack resolution. An Expert Mode in the Singularity app gives you expanded control over the camera system, but I personally didn’t find too much of a difference in final image quality. The built-in Sony sensor and quadruple 50mm lens system are very good, but I’m not sure they would satisfy the needs of a professional photographer.
If you’re looking for a simple, easy way to explore the cosmos, the Vespera is for you; however, if you’re a professional, or are looking for James Webb Space Telescope level photos, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere.
Pros: Compact form, reliable image processing, excellent tracking system
Cons: Image quality is not the best, autofocus system can be finicky.

This telescope can’t natively take pictures of the sun, but you can use the Vaonis Vespera Solar Filter, which is available as a separate rental item, for this application.
The internal battery is rated for four hours of continuous use on a single charge.
For longer durations, you can use a compatible USB Type-C PD power bank to power the Vespera via the included cable.
The Vespera uses live-stacking technology to provide optimal image quality on-the-spot.
With an Internet connection, you’re also able to share your photos instantly on social networks, and with the community of Vespera users around the world!
Yes! The Vespera is an all-in-one telescope, tracker, and camera equipped with a microcomputer for automatic star-alignment management, pointing and tracking of stars, image processing, and application updates.
Expert mode allows you to manually adjust select camera settings like gain and exposure time.
