What lens types are compatible with this camera?

This camera only natively accepts EF-M lens because it has an entirely different physical mount than EF or RF cameras.
You can use the Canon EF to Canon EF-M Adapter, which is available as a separate rental item, to mount EF and EF-S lenses to EF-M mount cameras.

Is there a shutter release you recommend with this camera?

We recommend using the Canon BR-E1 Remote Shutter Release since it’s a dedicated release to work with this camera.
